Hear me now and believe me later -- here were the Escapade 2010 panel reasons given as to the dearth of Sam/Michael fic (Daria asked me this and I realized that my comment answer could be a post here)

1. Bruce Campbell is an actor who is always a comedic sidekick or played for laughs, so he can't bring the angst we love in fanfic

2. Ageism against Bruce Campbell

3. Bruce Campbell seen as overweight and thus not sexy, tho this is wrong! He is too sexy!

4. Lack of a seminal groundbreaking major story that would MAKE people see it

5. Impact of Fiona. People love her so much they don't want to introduce any kind of slash pairing to take away from her (altho there's nothing to prevent all kinds of fic being written; the existence of slash does not take away from the canon Fiona/Michael).

6. Mental gridlock because it's all so pretty: Sam/Fiona, Mike/Fiona, Sam/Mike, and/or the threesome, or Mike paired with either of them historically or serially. Excess of choices leads to writer paralysis

7. It's a show where canon Does It All, hence the dearth of fanfic
